Holiday Aprons

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

I just finished these fun holiday aprons for a Holiday party this week. I tried something new with the ties. Instead of using the same fabric for the front and back, I used different coordinating fabrics. I really love the way it turned out. It feels more festive. Now I'm off to bake something in my new apron. Hope you have a happy Holiday and get to spend it with the ones you love.

A Baby Gift

This fun little onesie is on it's way to a friend and her baby boy. I am obsessed with bow ties for boys. I make my son wear one every year for family photos. My husband started wearing one for me and now has a quite a collection. This cute onesie almost makes me want to have another baby.

A Quilt for a Special Girl

Friday, March 22, 2013

I finally finished this quilt for my friend Katie. It's for her daughter Hannah's birthday (only it's a little late). I love the colors she chose they are so bright and happy. The minky fabric on the back and front is so snuggly - perfect for a little girl. I love the rick rack that my favorite quilter Diane at Confetti Quilts used - it was just the right accent. Now I just need to get it safely packaged and shipped.

Three Tooth Fairy Pillows

Jalapeño Pepper Jelly

Thursday, March 21, 2013

I have been really loving spicy, sweet things lately. I wanted to share a recipe I got from my friend, Traci. It's easy to make and is super tasty. I like to eat this with cream cheese and crackers for a fun appetizer, on steak as a sauce or just eat with toast in the morning. It's also a great gft to give to friends as a hostess gift.

Jalapeño Pepper Jelly

1 Lg. Red Pepper
1 Lg. Green Bell Pepper
1/2 tsp salt
10 Jalapeños with seeds (use less if you like it more mild)
1 1/2 C White Vinegar
5 C Sugar (original recipe calls for 6 - I think it's too sweet, you decide)
1 Pouch of Certo Liquid Fruit Pectin

In a food processor, finely chop pepper. Put in a large pot with vinegar, salt and sugar. Boil for 10 minutes. Stirring often. Add the pectin, boil for 1 minute. Fill canning jars and seal. Wait 24 hours. Makes 6 half-pint jars.

An Easter Tie

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

I just finished this tie to match my girls skirts. It was "sew" easy, I found a tutorial on Pinterest. You can see all the details here. I changed it a bit by adding different fabrics. Just sew them together before you begin cutting. I think I need to adjust the length and I've found that velcro at the neck is the best option for bigger kids.

I'm working on this today, but dreaming about food!

I love to eat normally, but being pregnant has really increased my appetite. I was looking through my recipes and realized that I dropped the ball a few months back and didn't finish my 30 days of tasty treats. Today I decided post a little something.  I picked the recipe because it is my husbands favorite or or possibly because I practiced spanish with my daughter this morning. You should try it- it's easy and fresh and tastes better than anything you can buy in a can.

I got this recipe from my friend, Tiffany. I have made a few tweaks to it. Mostly because I didn't have everything on hand to make it the way she suggested. To me it's better the next day. So flavorful!

2-3 Can Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes (or just plain diced tomatoes, if you are like me and don't have the others on hand and have zero patience to get in the car to go buy some)
1/2 Onion
1-2 Tomatillos
1 large or 2 med size fresh garlic cloves
1 Lime (she uses lemon) juiced. I like to zest my lime first and add that as well
Cilantro - I leave this out, my family doesn't like it.
1 jalapeño - with or without the seeds depending on how hot you like it
Pinch of Salt
Pinch of Sugar

Rough cut everything (except tomatoes) pulse in food processor until medium sized bits appear. I like it chunky, if you like it more smooth - keep chopping. Add the tomatoes (I like to drain 1-2 cans and reserve the liquid, I don't like it too soupy, you can always add it back). Pulse for about 10-15 seconds after adding tomatoes. Enjoy! Store in the refrigerator.

Easter Skirts

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Thanks to pinterest I found this website with the most adorable skirts. I love making skirts for my girls, so I decided to give it a try. I love the way they turned out. You can check out the website At the Picket Fence for details on how to make your own. I love the sash you can tie in a bow. I am making flowers to pin on their shirts and bows for their hair as well. Check back after Easter to see the girls dressed in their outfits. I hopefully will have a tie made for my son. I may have to bribe him to get him to wear it though.
